“Mary’s is a lifesaver, and I do not say that lightly!”
That’s what Hannah Gillick has to say, who has been a a Type 1 diabetic since October 3, 1994. When the rest of her kindergarten class went to the apple orchard that day, she was rushed from her primary care doctor to Children’s Hospital for a week-long stay that would forever change her life.
“I grew up pretty ‘normal’, besides getting sick a lot more easily than other kids – which a little later in life I found out wasn’t exactly the case. I actually had a chronic condition called Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome that made me ill, and in my teens and twenties the disease became crippling and disabling,” said Hannah.
Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome, for Hannah, causes relentless bouts of nausea, pain, vomiting (sometimes over 20 times an hour) and migraines. It can last anywhere from one day to several weeks.
“Right now, my options are to take very high dosages of anti-epilepsy and migraine medication multiple times every day. As needed, I can take anti-nausea meds, anti-anxiety meds, muscle relaxers, sedatives, antihistamines, and if I have to go to the hospital I get and IV with fluids, electrolytes and stronger pain medication,” said Hannah.
Triggers for Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome can be either positive or negative stress, including traveling, hormones, being sick, food, and even the weather. For Hannah, being a diabetic, the illness effects her blood sugars. To make matters worse, she also suffers from a severe anxiety disorder called Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, which adds to the mix (and more pharmaceuticals). So, to help herself manage both of these chronic conditions that unfortunately have no cure, she manages the symptoms themselves through Mary’s transdermal patches.
“I almost always have a CBD patch on to help with inflammation and nausea and pain, bringing things down a
few notches. I supplement when my symptoms get worse with other patches or topicals. Sometimes, I combine
a THC indica patch with the CBD topical, and use Mary’s muscle freeze on my sore muscles or joints. I love the patches because they are like my long-acting medicine and I don’t have to ‘take’ one again for many hours, and just supplement as needed for anything I feel as it comes,” said Hannah.
“I cannot thank Mary’s enough for helping me to scale down my pharmaceuticals so I can feel human again. I’m forever grateful for their products which have allowed me to take my life back into my own hands!”
